I thought I would test out my new i7 computer, so I opened up 100 programs (which includes a virtual machine running XP) and tiled the windows with Switcher.  There are 50 programs on each monitor, vuala!

Roomie Mobile Demo

May 25th, 2009

Since school is out and work hasn’t started yet, I have finally been able to catch up on some coding.  I know it’s geeky, but it’s fun!  Today I made some updates to Roomie, adding variables and functions to RoomieScript, the scripting language that the Roomie desktop application interprets.  Since I got a smart phone I have become in mobile development.  Today I took an hour or so to develop a mobile version of the Roomie website.  (Right now both websites are technically open to the public, but without the desktop application, which I have yet to release, the websites are useless to outsiders.)

Keeping the Memory

May 25th, 2009

It’s Memorial Day, and I found this on Digg—it really got to me.  At first I didn’t see anything special in the picture, but then I noticed the solitary tear coming down the boy’s cheek, and I thought about being in his position.  If you look in the first picture, both brothers are upset… they clearly shared a special relationship.  From his point of view, the kid said goodbye keeping the worst in mind, and then it actually happened.  By the time the second picture was taken he was emotionally raw and empty.  As cliché as it might sound, freedom is not free.

News to Me: Dells, Magnets, Office, Orgasms, and Periods

May 23rd, 2009

Here’s what is news to me:

  1. Dell’s Latitude 2100 reviewed: smart, but a bit heavy for afterschool use
I just thought that the toting mechanism on these laptops was cool.  Of course, I’m also all for computers in education.

  2. The Not-So-Safe Apple MagSafe Gallery
I don’t hate Macs, just smug Mac users.  That’s why I liked this post.

  4. Talks Mary Roach: 10 things you didn’t know about orgasm
This is a complete non sequitur, but I assure you an entertaining video, and completely safe for work.  I encountered it on DiggTED is full of interesting videos, though this video is the first of its kind that I’ve seen on the site.

  5. How Many Spaces after a Period: One or Two?
This one is also a bit random (also from Digg), but I, like the author, was also quite shocked!  “This is worse than Pluto being stripped of planetary status.”  Agreed.

Fixing my Zune’s broken glass (again) on the cheap!

May 23rd, 2009

A while ago I dropped my Zune flat on its face and fixed it myself with some parts from RapidRepair.com.  Unfortunately, it seems that Rapid Repair’s replacement “glass” wasn’t glass at all but rather some cheap plastic that broke while the Zune was in my pocket with my cell phone.
