For those who are curious: I used Windows Live Photo Gallery to stitch three individual pictures together into a single panorama. (Video demo here, written tutorial here.)
Microsoft Offers Office Ultimate for $60 again
August 22nd, 2008Last year Microsoft introduced The Ultimate Steal program, which offered students Office Ultimate (every single Microsoft Office program which usually hundreds of dollars) for $60. The deal is back on, and a great buy for any student wanting or needing Office 2007. If my memory serves me right, all that is required is a ".edu" email address to prove that you are a student.
What’s even cooler is that you don’t have to wait for a disk to arrive in the mail, since the default option is to download an installer file. (Physical medium is also available for a small fee.)

FRI Version 1.7.0.2
August 21st, 2008This release of FRI is thanks to Flotsam, who took it upon him self to write out a very detailed email describing problems with FRI. His email was so succinct and clear, giving the root of the problem and not simply the symptoms, that I was able to make the requested changes in under 20 minutes. In fact, it took longer to prepare the release than it did to code it!
Flotsam’s email address:
(yes, the text is a picture. I don’t want him getting automated bot spam!)
Now for the release. FRI version 1.7.0.2 contains updated to the default Platform Vocabulary, as well as a fix to a bug that I will describe in detail below.

PHP and ASP on the same GoDaddy hosting account.
August 21st, 2008I recently purchased Windows hosting from GoDaddy so that I could use ASP.NET, which I recently learned and found to be much nicer than PHP for my purposes. Wordpress, the bloging engine that I use, is written in PHP, however. Much to my surprise, it seems that the Windows hosting not only has ASP.NET, but also PHP. Great! I’m still looking how to migrate my blog over safely, but it seems like I will be able to. It seems like PHP on IIS is not quite as good as PHP on Apache, but if it can save me from paying for two hosting plans than I’ll be glad.
